| Professor David E Newby
in Medicine from the University of Southampton in 1991, I developed an
interest in vascular biology and injury as a British Heart Foundation
Junior Research Fellow in Edinburgh. After gaining a Doctorate of
Medicine at the University of Southampton and Doctorate of Philosophy
at the University of Edinburgh, I was appointed Clinical Senior
Lecturer and Reader before gaining a personal chair in 2005. I have
recently been awarded a British Heart Foundation Chair in Cardiology at
the University of Edinburgh, and am currently Director of the Wellcome
Trust Clinical Research Facility, Director of the Clinical Research
Imaging Centre, Director of Research and Development for NHS Lothian,
and an Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
My main research interests lie in experimental medicine studies
investigating cardiovascular function with relevance to acute coronary
syndromes and heart failure.
