| Professor Iain B McInnes
training in Medicine and Immunology in University of Glasgow and at the
National Institutes of Health, USA, I was appointed to the post of
Professor of Experimental Medicine in University of Glasgow in 2002.
I am currently Head of Division of Immunology, Infection and
Inflammation in the Faculty of Medicine and a Consultant Rheumatologist
based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary. My research interests focus on
of inflammatory synovitis in rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. To
this end I lead a translational program encompassing basic cellular
immunology through to clinical intervention in phase I and II trials.
Recently these studies have been extended to include the role of
inflammation in atherogenesis with an emphasis on co-morbidity in
autoimmunity. I have been fortunate in having this work recognised in
award of the Michael Mason Medal (BSR 2002), Albrecht Hasinger
Lectureship (Berlin 2003) and recently the Nana Svartz Lectureship
(Swedish Medical Society 2008). A past chair of the European League
Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Scientific Committee, I am now Chair of the
EULAR Committee for Clinical Affairs, and also serve on the MRC Panel
for Training and Fellowships and as vice chair of the Arthritis
Research Campaign Research Committee. It is an honour to serve as
Deputy to Prof Webb in organizing this exciting programme in an area of
such priority in UK medicine.
